Lower Granville Hall Launches Community Garden
On November 7th, the Good Cheer Self-Sufficiency Society and community volunteers broke ground for the Port Royal Community Garden & Learning Space at the Lower Granville Hall. A growing bed was established around our event sign, and sites marked out for a fruit tree border. Donna & Poppy Schafrick are pictured here planting daffodil bulbs to cheer us with flowers in the spring (photo by Michael Rouse).
The garden plan features edible landscaping of trees and shrubs, raised garden beds for vegetables, herbs and flowers. Each new implementation will be a learning event: planting trees and shrubs, making raised beds, setting up rain barrels, pouring a concrete slab and building a tool shed, etc.
The garden is open to anyone who wants to learn or teach. Please respond to this message or call if you want to be involved in future events: 902-955-1955. Come grow with us!
